Getting Started in The Forbidden Tomes of Olipos

Welcome to Fulah

You are Romina, a librarian from the Great Royal Library in capital Granseria, dropped into a hard-but-fair classic JRPG after the daemons Olipos and Zahal steal your magic. The Forbidden Tomes of Olipos (Steam/GOG, released 2026-08-06, Kagura Games publishing Konjikineko’s work) is single-player only and usually clears in about four to six hours. This page gets you through the first town loop without wasting gold or missing the story trigger south of the village.

Your hometown hub is Fulah (フウラ村), a mountain village with shops, rest spots, NPC hints, and the house you will return to for mid-story beats and endings. Learn its exits before you chase caves. Northeast leads toward the Forbidden Seal Cave. Southwest eventually leads to Ripool Harbor. South of the village stands merchant Mottl, your first critical talk.

First-hour checklist

  1. Open every Fulah shop and note healing prices versus accessory prices.
  2. Find the glasses toggle and any bunny-costume hint NPC (Larafina-style guidance) using tips from Controls.
  3. Talk to Mottl south of town before wandering randomly.
  4. Buy sustain and at least one defensive or silence-leaning accessory if affordable—see Equipment.
  5. Keep relics that smell like fusion fodder; skim Crafting Builds before selling bags of junk.
  6. Enter the northeast Forbidden Seal Cave only when healing stock and a basic kit feel stable.

What stolen magic means mechanically

Romina does not begin as an untouchable archmage. The fantasy is reconstruction: weapons, armor, accessories, and crafted magic books rebuild the toolkit the daemons took. That is why this game feels gear-focused even at low playtime. If a fight is miserable, assume a loadout gap before you assume a level gap. Combat & Magic explains status and turn habits; Boss Fights calls out Morphin as the first named wall where silence-seal ring or silence resistance matter.

Fulah habits that pay off later

Return to Fulah after major bosses. Story flags often want a village chief report, a Mottl re-talk, or a home visit. The walkthrough spine is documented in Fulah Village and Story Overview. Map exits are summarized in Fulah and World Overview.

Do not ignore Shining Medals even early. They are trade fuel. You will not finish every medal in hour one, but pocket what you see and track goals later with Shining Medals and the Medal Tracker.

First dungeon expectations

The Forbidden Seal Cave introduces standard JRPG hallway pressure plus the Morphin false-tome fight. Read notes after victory, report to the village chief, then Mottl again before you swing southwest to Ripool. Detailed room advice lives in Seal Cave. If Morphin silences or locks your plan, leave, adjust accessories, and return—the game is fair when you respect that loop.

Cleared dungeon enemies can later become touch-to-defeat. Clearing thoroughly the first time is still worth it for chests and medals, and it makes cleanup nicer after you unlock that QoL.

How this wiki wants you to tab

Keep Guides Hub and Walkthrough Hub available. When you need people, open Romina and Villagers. When you need stash rules, open the Items Hub. When you are already thinking about post-game, glance at New Game Plus but do not derail the first clear chasing perfect endings yet—use the Ending Checklist near the finale instead.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Skipping Mottl and getting lost on the overworld.
  • Selling relics that were fusion ingredients.
  • Entering Seal Cave with empty healing and no silence plan.
  • Ignoring glasses toggle and missing containers or tells.
  • Pushing to Ripool before chief/Mottl wrap-up after Morphin.

Next reads after the tutorial hour

Immediate next: Controls, then Combat & Magic. Story next: Fulah Village. If you still need purchase confidence, the Review Hub sets expectations without heavy route spoilers.

Start slow in Fulah, spend gold like a librarian who knows books cost more than potions, and let Mottl send you northeast on purpose. That is the whole beginner skill: intentional hub use before heroic dungeon dives. Come back to this page only if you reset a save—otherwise graduate into crafting and boss prep and keep moving toward Ripool when the village flags say you should.
